Anticlimax

I'm enjoying a lovely quiet day at home by myself today catching up on some work, some preparations for my classes that will start next week, and reading one last book for fun, all courtesy of Tropical Storm Erin. Yesterday, the National Weather Service was predicting heavy rain and flooding in Corpus Christi so the University decided to close today (thus my unexpected day off). But, as has been the case with most storms in recent years, Erin just missed us. She came ashore early this morning just north of Corpus which meant that the really wet side of the storm (to the north and east of the storm center) passed us by to the north. As of now, we have an inch of rain in the rain gauge on the back fence, cloudy skies, decent temperatures, and disgustingly high humidity.

But, we're keeping an eye on Hurricane Dean which, should he continue on his present course, will be making us somewhat nervous come this time next week. Come to think of it, anticlimax isn't such a bad thing.
